1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using SapioChat ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you are creating an account on behalf of a minor, you represent that you are the child's parent or legal guardian and consent to these terms on their behalf.

2. Service Description

SapioChat is an AI-powered conversational assistant designed for young people. Parents create and manage child accounts, configure safety policies and family guidance, and monitor flagged safety events. The AI provides educational, informational, and conversational responses shaped by these settings.

3. Not a Substitute for Professional Help

SapioChat is not a mental health service, medical provider, or crisis hotline. While the AI is designed to respond safely to sensitive topics and direct users to appropriate resources, it is not a replacement for professional counseling, therapy, medical advice, or emergency services.

4. Account Responsibilities

• You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
• Parents are responsible for managing their children's accounts and reviewing safety settings
• You agree to provide accurate information when creating accounts
• You must be at least 18 years old to create a parent account

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use SapioChat to:

• Generate content that is illegal, harmful, or promotes violence
• Attempt to circumvent safety policies or content filters
• Use automated scripts or bots to interact with the service
• Share account credentials with unauthorized individuals
• Use the service for any commercial purpose other than personal family use

6. AI Limitations

The AI assistant may occasionally produce inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate responses despite our safety measures. We continuously work to improve response quality and safety, but we cannot guarantee that all AI outputs will be perfectly accurate or appropriate. Parents should review safety events and maintain open communication with their children about their AI interactions.

7. Subscriptions and Billing

SapioChat offers free trials and paid subscription plans. Paid subscriptions are billed monthly or annually through Stripe. You may cancel your subscription at any time through the billing dashboard; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis.

8. Account Termination

You may delete your account at any time, which will permanently remove all associated data including child profiles, conversations, and safety events. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, SapioChat and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the service in the 12 months preceding the claim.

10. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
